How eBay selling fees are calculated
eBay selling fees usually combine a percentage final value fee, a fixed per-order fee, and an insertion fee when the listing is not covered by a free-listing allowance. This calculator also supports the current US international fee when a US registered seller marks the transaction as international and is not using eligible eBay International Shipping.
What is an eBay final value fee?
The final value fee is charged when an item sells. In this calculator it is shown as a percentage portion plus the fixed per-order fee. The percentage rate depends on the selected eBay fee category, and several categories use thresholds or marginal tiers.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Buyer-paid shipping is part of the total amount of sale used for the eBay final value fee. It is also seller revenue in this calculator because the seller receives that shipping amount before paying any seller-side shipping-label or fulfillment costs.
Does eBay charge fees on sales tax?
Sales tax paid by the buyer is included in the eBay fee base, so it can increase the final value fee. The calculator does not treat buyer sales tax as seller revenue and does not subtract sales tax again from seller proceeds.
eBay per-order fee
For normal supported categories, the fixed order fee is $0.30 when the order total amount of sale is $10.00 or less and $0.40 when it is over $10.00. It is charged once for the eBay order, not once per item quantity. Selected Athletic Shoes at $150 or more waive the per-order fee in this Task 10 scope.
eBay insertion fees
Most supported categories use the standard zero-insertion allowance input: if the allowance remains, insertion is $0.00; if it is exhausted, the standard insertion fee is $0.35. Selected Business & Industrial uses its special $20 insertion fee, and Guitars & Basses are free in this supported configuration.
eBay international fee
For a US registered seller, the current international fee in this calculator is 1.65% of the order total amount of sale when the transaction is international and eligible eBay International Shipping is not selected. If eligible eBay International Shipping is selected, the international fee result is $0.00.
eBay category fee differences
The selector includes Most Categories, media, Coins & Paper Money, Bullion, Women's Bags & Handbags, selected trading cards and collectibles, Jewelry, Watches, NFT categories, selected Business & Industrial, Guitars & Basses, and selected Athletic Shoes. It does not apply those rates to eBay Motors vehicles, Real Estate, Classified Ads, eBay Live, or unsupported Store subscriptions.
Worked example
The worked example uses a $400 smartphone-style sale in Most Categories, $0 shipping, $0 handling, $24 sales tax, quantity 1, exhausted zero-insertion allowance, and no international fee.

- Percentage final value fee: $57.66
- Per-order fee: $0.40

What this calculator includes
It includes the supported category percentage fee, fixed per-order fee, supported insertion-fee rules, optional US international fee, eBay International Shipping exemption, and one optional known eBay fee entered manually by the seller.
What this calculator does not include
It does not automatically calculate Promoted Listings, Promoted Stores, optional listing upgrades, dispute fees, seller-performance additional final value fees, policy-violation fees, shipping-label purchases, currency conversion, eBay Live fees, vehicle-sale fees, Real Estate fees, Classified Ad fees, Store subscription fees, tax on seller fees, or refund/fee-credit adjustments.
Product cost, seller-paid shipping, packaging, and advertising are not inputs on this fee calculator. Use the eBay Profit Calculator when you want to subtract those seller costs from the fee estimate.
Why your actual eBay fees may differ
Your actual fee can differ because eBay may classify the listing differently, apply optional upgrades, charge additional fees based on seller performance or policy conditions, process refunds or fee credits, or apply Store-specific schedules outside this Task 10 scope. Use seller account statements for final reconciliation.
Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay charge to sell an item?
It depends on the eBay fee category, sale amount, sales tax, insertion-fee allowance, and whether the transaction is international. This calculator estimates those supported pieces for US no-Store and Starter Store sellers.
What is the eBay final value fee?
It is the transaction fee charged when an item sells. This page shows the percentage portion and the fixed order fee separately.
Does eBay charge a payment processing fee?
This calculator does not add a separate payment-processing percentage on top of eBay's final value fee.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Buyer-paid shipping is included in the final-value-fee base for this standard estimate.
Does eBay charge fees on sales tax?
Sales tax is included in the fee base but excluded from seller revenue in this calculator.
What is the $0.30 or $0.40 eBay order fee?
It is the fixed per-order component of the final value fee. The calculator applies it once per order, based on the order total amount of sale.
How many free eBay listings do I get?
In this no-Store/Starter Store scope, most supported categories use a standard 250-listing monthly zero-insertion allowance. The page asks whether allowance remains rather than attempting to model your monthly listing history.
What happens after 250 free listings?
For standard supported categories, the calculator applies the $0.35 insertion fee when you indicate the allowance is exhausted.
Why are eBay category fees different?
eBay sets different final value fee structures for different fee categories. Some use marginal tiers, while others choose a single whole-base rate based on a threshold.
What is the eBay international fee?
For the supported US seller account scope, the international fee is 1.65% of the order total amount of sale when the transaction is international and eligible eBay International Shipping is not used.
Does eBay International Shipping avoid the international fee?
For eligible listings in this supported US seller scope, selecting eBay International Shipping sets the international fee to $0.00 in the calculator.
Does this calculator include Promoted Listings?
No. Promoted Listings and advertising belong outside this Task 10 standard fee estimate.
Does this calculator support eBay Stores?
It supports No Store and Starter Store scope only. Basic, Premium, Anchor, and Enterprise Store fee schedules are intentionally not loaded here.
Why is my actual eBay fee different?
Category assignment, optional upgrades, seller-performance fees, refunds, credits, Store plans, international settings, and account adjustments can all change real statements.
Does this calculator calculate profit?
No. It estimates eBay fees and seller proceeds before seller costs. Use the eBay Profit Calculator to include product cost, seller-paid shipping, packaging, advertising, and other seller expenses.
